The infamous and beloved cat of the Miller household, Dufus on a high window ledge. "As with most cats, the attraction to this ledge was that it was the summit of the apartment, overlooking the stairway 15 feet below. About a week after this picture, he fell from this ledge to the tile floor below. A distinct personality change occurred and the cat now finds the ledge quite upsetting and the lap comforting." To the disappointment of the complete artist community, the artist says that this will most likely be the last picture of Dufus on this ledge.

Also a family pet, included at the request of the artist. It was reported in the press at the time that Kelly was named for the artist's prom date. The woman, being a dog lover, found the joke a complement. A dog of outstanding virtue and gentleness, Kelly passed on in October 1999.

Located northwest of Boulder, Brainard Lake represents in the artist's mind the best of Colorado. Above 10,000 feet, the park was a respite during hard times: glacial lakes, wildflowers, and lack of oxygen, transporting and deeply influencing the artist works. Miller complained often about the complexities of the recently acquired camera that was used to take this picture, and the limited f3.5 aperture of the included 35-80mm zoom lens. This photograph, one of a series of four used in the artist's personal Christmas cards, stand not on the artist's mastery of his equipment, not on the shallow beauty of the content, but the subtle, powerful symbolism captured in the interplay of the elements. Critical studies of these photographs have revealed complex symbologies tapping deep into raw, primal emotions.
